Celebrity style crush: Daisy Lowe
When it comes to being a young style icon, a little good breeding always helps.
And no other girl has such controversial and glamourous parentage than Daisy Lowe. Daughter of singer turned designer Pearl Lowe, this gorgeous British ‘it girl’ grew up believing her father was her mother’s ex-husband, Bronner Lowe. After discovering neither of her parents had her blood type, Daisy sought a paternity test and found out it was her godfather, Gavin Rossdale (Gwen Stefani’s hubby and lead singer of rockband Bush) who was her biological father. And all this before the age of 16 and with budding modeling career.
Daisy has fronted campaigns for labels such as Burberry, Converse, Agent Provocateur, Dr Martens, Wheel and Doll Baby, Ben Sherman, Karen Millen and Diesel. She has graced the covers of countless publications and stomped the runway for fashion institutions such as Chanel and Vivienne Westwood. With her raspy voice and modest charm, Daisy has hosted events, become a noted DJ and even recorded tracks with her ex-boyfriend Mark Ronson. With a swagger of equally A-List friends including Alexa Chung, Agyness Deyn and Peaches Geldolf, is there anything this cutie can’t do?
It was Daisy who inspired me to try the blunt, choppy fringe (it didn’t look nearly as good on me!) and I continue to admire her unique, off-beat style. With a angelic face and grungy clothes, I think Daisy manages to be cute, sexy and graceful in one fell swoop. As a size 10 model, Daisy has been referred to as ‘curvy’ and doesn’t mind standing out from the pack. She has admitted to struggling with body image, but proudly flies the flag for those without the typical model shape in the fashion industry.
For all of May 2010, Daisy has been doing a daily post of outfits for Vogue.co.uk called “Today I’m Wearing…” . It’s a peek into the truly unique style of the lovable Miss Lowe.
Here are my top five Daisy looks…
Casual and street
Being a born and bred Londoner, Daisy knows how to rock the casual street look. I love the bright Dr Martins to add a splash of colour to an otherwise quite muted outfit. If not a Dr Martin fan, some cute hot pink pumps or converse sneakers would have the same effect.
Tongue in cheek couture
Confession: when I first saw this picture, I immediately wanted a hat like this. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. I think this is the mark of a true style icon: the ability to make even the most ridiculous of looks coveted by the masses.
Gothic vamp
Not many could pull of this sombre look. I love the dark lips and unusual T-shirt; this is a good example of how to do a sophisticated, glamour-goth. I love the cut of the blazer too, Daisy has nailed the proportions for a flattering, timeless look.
Cute cowgirl
Who would have ever thought this outfit could look so good? Cowgirl meets poodle skirt meets Cha Cha dancer. I know it’s not really practical, but I love a risk taker and I give her 10/10 for this one. Daisy has a subtle trademark of 50s glamour girl look that she brings to almost every outfit.
Festival chic
How could I do a stylish British girl story and not mention the festival look? The mud, the wellies, the gloomy sky behind: all consistent factors of festival style moments. I love the Jaws printed T-shirt and colourful sunglasses. Playful, easy and perfect for backstage music festival shenanigans.
Labels on my radar: Top Shop, Wheel and Doll Baby, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, American Apparel, Marc Jacobs, Bardot, Dr Martins, Surface to Air, Karen Walker, May.
Bonjour, Charming to tie you, I am Nancy
