Celebrity style salute: Chace Crawford
Let’s be honest, Chace Crawford is impossibly good looking. In the ice cream sundae of life he got a scoop of good genetics, a scoop of charisma and a cherry on top of fantastic style. He is a walking, breathing ken doll with a gravelly voice and bevvy of good looking work colleagues on the set of TV show Gossip Girl. So what can mere mortals learn from this Adonis? (Yes. I have a crush.) Well… if you look at his off-duty style, the guy doe has a genuine and easy to replicate style.
Having only recently secured his first non-GG (Gossip Girl) roles in major movies Twelve and Peace, Love and Misunderstanding, Chace came to acting quite late in life. After persuing a career in journalism and advertising, he thought he’d give acting a go and went to a brief meeting with a casting director, after which he promptly secured the part of Nate Archibald on GG. It hasn’t all been roses for Chace though, having been arrested in 2010 and enduring a very public break up with former American Idol contestant Carrie Underwood, which, according to rumours, occured via text message.
But all misdemeanours aside, I feel Chace deserves snaps for his amazingly preppy fashion choices. He honours his southern background (being a born and bred Texan) by having a very neat and tidy way of dressing, but mixes it with stand-out pieces that embody each season. If it’s summer, he can be spotted in Hermes leather sandals and a neat polo shirt. In winter, he knows how to rock a scarf and double breasted jacket. He is the king of seasonal dressing and old world charm.
Here are my top five tips every man should take on board from Chace Crawford…
Choose a unique sweater
You know what this sweater says to me? It says “I’m a confident, suave guy who likes to be warm and look good at the same time. I have a good sense of style, but it’s not the most important thing in the world. Oh, and I will buy you flowers.” That’s what it says. If you want girls to perceive you this way, go find a detailed sweater like this. Chace scores 10/10 for this.
Know how to rock a suit
I love this photo. It’s like a buffet of good looks and expensive suits. But you know who stands out? Chace. It’s because he has chosen a charcoal suit and a slightly darker shirt underneath. Your eyes are naturally drawn to this combination and it is the most flattering for his skin tone.
A well tailored coat
This is such an easy to accomplish look, you can throw a well tailored coat over everything. I know we are about to go into summer, but now is actually the best time to be on the look out for classic, timeless jackets on sale. Just put them in the back of the wardrobe for next winter and you will be super stylin’ in 2011.
Get your bomber on
A good bomber jacket can hide a multitude of sins. The pockets help disguise any extra weight and the broad shoulders and tight waist create an illusion of a longer torso. It also has a slightly retro, rebel look to it, which can only be a good thing! This amazing jacket (on right) is from Flinders Lane and is ridiculously well priced. Know your eye colour
I once read that on most females can perfectly describe their partner’s eye colour, while men can only correctly pick their girlfriend’s eye colour 50% of the time. What does this tell us? That women notice this kind of thing. Why not use your eye colour to your advantage? If you have blue eyes, go for shirts that are blue, grey and charcoal. If you have brown eyes, go for a bold, bright colour or black or white. If you have green/hazel eyes, go for anything in a softer, muted tone.
